JESLA full 40 amp Portable Charge Cable

Folks,

I've gotten several emails from some of you who want to know if the JESLA can charge your Mercedes B-Class ED. The answer is simply, "yes".

We already have several satisfied customers with the small number of cars out there. Full 40 amp capability and the only thing you need is the NEMA 14-50R outlet in your wall at home to use it.

While there are no specs on the cable, it looks to be about the same gauge as the EVSEUpgrade cable. According to reviews the Siemens VersiCharge http://w3.usa.siemens.com/powerdist...le/versicharge/pages/ev-charging-station.aspx has a high quality cable.

I don't have any specs on it but I'll venture a guess that, like the portable EVSEs included with most EVs in this country, it is 120 volt only... Wire gauge has no relevance in this context as it is related to power (amps) and not volts....

Oops. Somehow missed the MBCED in roperId's message. Below is a picture i took of the EVSE that comes with the B-Class. You'll notice that it is (1) 110v only, (2) very compact, and (3) that the cable is very thin. So this is probably not adequate for heavy duty use and really designed for an emergency only EVSE.

Yes, only 110v and charges very slowly - per MB spec "over 30 hours" from empty after a week with the car I've been finding that it is well over 30 hours. However, I have purchased the Jesla too - at 110v it is marginally faster, but occasionally topping off at the dryer outlet (30A) at a rate of 5 hours if battery was empty (it has not been close), and have a future 50A install soon that should further improve the charge time.

As with the Leaf, it only charges at 12 amps maximum so it is pretty slow... It is also built VERY cheaply and lightly - much more so than the Panasonic that comes with the Leaf - so you definitely would not want to use it on a regular basis.

JESLA flexibility is the way to go so far for me... While I can charge slowly at 110v and MBED estimated 23 hours to fill 100% from 40% battery remaining. I swapped out the 110v/15A adapter for the 220v/30A adapter and now forecasted to complete 100% charge in 3 hours. Eagerly awaiting my 50A outlet installed in the garage.
