Insurance cost?

What are people paying for insurance for the B class electric? I called my company (Progressive) for a quote with the VIN but they had no info on this new car. They called me back the next day with a quote of $1,120/ year which is very reasonable but they said this was based on a guess according to how much they would charge me for other Mercedes in the same price range. I would hate to lease the car for three years and then have them jack up the insurance 3x after they find out that to replace the battery or motor after a wreck will be $20,482 and $12,340. Something as simple as running over a cinder block in the road or hitting an animal could total both parts in one shot.

Electric cars have been out there for quite a number of years. Yes, they are expensive to repair, but so is a Mercedes V8 or V12 engine or an automatic transmission.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it. The industry already insures EV's, and has for some time. The fact that Mercedes is new to EV's isn't a big deal.

The motor and battery in a Tesla Model S costs a LOT MORE !!!

It seems strange that a company as big as Progressive wouldn't know this car yet. They have been on the road in California since July.

So what kind of price did they hit you with? How would that compare to a GLK or C class?

Amica Insurance Quoted me $955 for a year. I have multiple cars with them.

I moved from Farmers to liberty mutual

With 07 Pilot, and 2012 Nissan Leaf, and 2014 B Class(new), $900 for 6 months.

Dear Fellow-Bs:

I have been a loyal State Farm customer for years. That said, I am considering alternatives -- specifically, Geico and Liberty Mutual because they both offer lower rates for the same coverage I currently carry. My concern is whether there are unstated risks with either of these companies. For example, do either of these companies insists on non-OEM parts in the event of a claim? Or, do either of these companies insists on a generic/non-European speciality bodyshop? I welcome your feedback and experience, especially as it pertains to your B-Class.

Been with Geico for at least 10 years, before with Allstate. The largest part of savings on premium is replacing commissioned agents with lower paid salaried employees. At least that's what it was when I looked at it and switched. I have had some quarter panels replaced. The payouts were enough to dully cover the repairs at auto shops using parts they sourced from ???. If I went to the dealer, the labor costs would have been higher and I would have been out more than my deductible I think. I did not get a quote but can do this math in my head.

So I guess to answer your question, while they don't insist on how I fix my car or even if I fix my car, it is priced like most all insurance, enough to fix the car less your deductible. If you live in a high cost area, you will have to negotiate payouts up.

Good to know, JeffRay. Coincidentally, I did a bit of research and switched to Geico upon my renewal date. End result: I saved $400 for the same coverage.
