There's got to be a hack, but it would likely involve re-programming the ecu.
There's a guy in the UK who has an old Merc and has re-programmed the ecu in many ways to modernise his car.
All experimental but he get's there in the end!

Hi. I'm in the UK and had the chrome B250e badge on the tailgate but I prefer the clean look so I removed them. I still have them.

I saw a video on the SmartEV where someone changed theirs.
You have to remove the battery protective panel unde the rear to access the filters, one on either side. Then you can remove them, stick them in the microwave and re-install them.
Have you checked the speed sensor for coolant? If there is liquid on it then that might fasttrack the diagnosis. ie coolant may have entered the motor.
I had only my battery 'service' done (the 8th and final one on a 16 plate) just last month at Mercedes (UK). No main service done (they wanted over £400 for a 'B' service!). They wanted to charge £119 for the battery service (or around that amount) and it's just replacing 2 battery dessicant...
