Hi all, first time post, long time reader.

I'm considering purchasing or leasing a MB ED. Looks like a solid EV that would fit my driving patterns remarkably well.

After perusing this board and the online MB E owner's manual, I'm left with one nagging question: what is the recommended procedure for long-term storage, say up to 5 or 6 months? I snowbird in the winter, so the car would stay in the garage while I'm gone, possibly plugged into its charger, if that is recommended. Winter temperatures moderate between 17F to 50F, but my detached garage stays a bit warmer due to insulation and such.

Presumably I'd just leave the B plugged in and let its BMS manage everything. Assuming it doesn't occasionally charge the 12V battery, I'd put a BatteryMinder-type maintainer or similar on that.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
..Brom.

Brom,

Haven't a clue but want your question to go back to the top of the list! Others will know better about long-term plug in. If you have remote access, you can monitor charge levels. Makes sense regarding trickle charging the other battery.

I took the CarTrain to Orlando with family and it was easy so have you considered bringing your baby with you to FL that way?

I couldn't be without my B-Class for that long! Lend it to a family member for commuting! (Tell them to use it twice a week and charge it every time)

It's not good for the tires, fluids, etc. to sit dormant for 6 months. I like the idea of shipping your car to Florida.
